Fourth of July Weekend

We've really been packing in the fun experiences this summer, and fourth of July weekend was no exception.  We started off the long weekend by meeting Dustin in San Francisco (complete with BARTing in, which the kids never seem to get enough of) and riding the cable cars, eating seafood fresh off Fisherman's Wharf, and finishing up with dessert at Ghirardelli Square.  The kids were so amazing when it came to waiting what seemed like FOREVER to get on the cable cars each way, and it was a pretty fun outing for our little family.  It was an awesome kickoff to start the weekend off right!

Friday was pretty awesome because we found a way to take the kids out for a baseball game (Hank seems to be getting JUST old enough this year to start to enjoy the idea of going) AND be able to see fireworks without having to leave our seats.  The kids always jump at the chance to eat copious amounts of junk food, cheer as loudly as possible, and get to see some pretty cool stuff up close and personal.  The fireworks post-game were better than I anticipated and truthfully made me a little emotional.  The kids had moments of such sheer joy at seeing these incredible fireworks light up the sky, and being able to witness that as a parent along with the sappy music accompanying the show pushed me over the edge a little.  I am so grateful to live in this country and have all the blessings that come with being where we are with the family that we have is a little overwhelming (in a good way) for me to comprehend sometimes.

Saturday found us a little worse for the wear after two late nights out on the town.  We started the day at the Ward Pancake Breakfast, but soon decided that a low-key actual 4th of July day would probably be best suited for our family.  We spent some time checking off some items on our Summer of Fun list, spent plenty of time resting, and had some pretty epic fun with water in the backyard (I know, I know, the drought made us feel guilty about using any water for recreational use BUT we are usually pretty eco-conscious so I think it all equals out in the end, right?).

The fourth left us feeling pretty connected as a family, refreshed and rejuvenated to tackle the rest of summer and all the craziness that's going to come along with it.
