In the evening, we had a Batman-themed birthday party for Hank. He’s been going through a bit of a superhero phase, so it seemed appropriate. Hank caught a glimpse of his cake in the fridge (a good hiding spot for cakes you’d rather not have fingers touching) and wanted to open the door and sneak a peek every few minutes or so. I finally convinced him that the cake was “sleeping” so he would give it some peace and quiet. Hank really honed his opening presents technique from Christmas, so he knew just what to do during party time and got those gifts unwrapped in record time. His favorites toys included his new Buzz Lightyear action figure, stuffed Batman, and wheelbarrow for his many afternoons helping Mom and Dad out in the backyard.
One of the cuter parts of the evening came at cake time. Hank was dying to blow out those candles and dig in, so he sang the birthday song to himself. When we started to sing to him, though, he got this great look on his face that read to me like he was feeling pretty special. It was a great end to an awesome day celebrating Hank’s newly acquired “two-ness”.
