This year Lyla was invited by a mom of a boy from her TK class to join a dance group trying out for the Cultural Day performance. Cultural Day at Ardenwood is no joke! Lyla had practice every week for two months - sometimes twice! We designed outfits for the kids to wear, and there was a lot of time spent getting everyone's ensembles together and coordinated. When it came time to try out, there were 28 groups auditioning for only 10 spots. Craziness! Lyla's group snagged a coveted spot and were given the opportunity to perform at the Cultural Day assembly a few weeks later. The girls started the number with an Indian Bollywood-style dance, followed by the boys doing a Korean K-Pop number, and then all the kids come on the stage together to do some Country Western dancing. I was really impressed with the mom, Priyanka, and her ability to wrangle so many Kindergarteners and get them to memorize three full minutes of choreography! Lyla and I learned a lot about the Indian culture - food, clothing, music, and dancing. It was a really enriching experience (for both of us!) and we were honored to be a part of it.
