A few weeks ago I asked Lyla if she would want to a professional game and if she would prefer to go to baseball game or a basketball game. Her response was, "let's go to a baseball game. They are longer and we can have more snacks." Smart kid. We finally got around to going to that game. In preparation for the game, Ellen went out to get us shirts. Lyla was excited to take BART to the game. When we got there we set off to the Bleacher seats and Lyla enjoyed the environment with the guys waving flags and banging on the drums. We got started early with Cracker Jacks and the A's hit a Grand Slam in the first inning. Lyla had tons of questions and I realized the rules of baseball aren't as easy to explain to a three year old as you would think. The game continued and so did the treats. We got ice cream in a helmet and took a walk all the way around the ball park with frequent stops to see how the game was progressing. By the 5th inning, we got to cotton candy and the game was getting a little more interest as the Angels bats came alive. The highlight of the game came soon after when the Big-headed Catfish Hunter, Ricky Henderson and Dennis Eckersly raced around the field then came up into the stands. We went over so Lyla could see them Stumpy the elephant. While before that I was wondering if she was really having fun or just incredibly hopped up on sugar, after there was no question. We didn't stay for the whole game but, I would say 7+ innings of a night game was a success for our first outing. It is always a lot of fun to get some alone time with my little girl. She is growing up so fast.
