We got to the inn late Friday night, so we hit the park for the first time early Saturday morning. We started off with an ambitious hike through the Mist Trail. It was made one-way to reduce foot traffic, and you had to link up with the John Muir Trail to get back down. It was almost a 9 mile hike altogether, and the elevation was insane! I can't believe we were able to do it, but we did! The kids were champs and it took us about 6 hours total. We were able to see Bernal Falls and Nevada Falls, and feel the mist and rainbows coming off of those waterfalls. We were pretty tired when we finished, so we hooked up with the Lee's for a trip floating down the river in inner tubes. The float took way longer than expected, and it was getting quite cold, late, and tubes were deflating before we decided to call it quits early. The moms ran to get the cars while the dads ordered pizza. We drove back to the motel and scarfed down so much pizza before passing out for some exhausted, deep sleep.
Dustin took a middle of the night excursion to take some shots in Yosemite, and they turned out beautifully! He definitely was lacking in sleep till he got back to the hotel for some shut eye, but he powered through on Father's Day like a pro.
Sunday morning we all got up and toured some of the more iconic spots in Yosemite. We hit up Tunnel View, Glacier Point, and Mariposa Grove. We cut our hike through the grove short due to having to park so far away, but we salvaged things with a trip back to the valley floor in Yosemite for a trip through the gift shop and a quick dip in the river with the Lees before packing it up and heading home. We crammed a lot into the weekend, and the kids are anxious to go back again and see what else the park has to offer!
