For Presidents' Day Weekend, we decided to try to get out of the house. Once a baby gets added in the mix and sleeps a good portion of the day, it's hard to get out anywhere (especially when you value sleep as much as we do!). However, I do think that not going out on any adventures has been a little hard on Hank and Lyla. Before Jack was born, we were out and about all the time! So, it seemed like a good and reasonable goal to take a day trip down to Monterey to the aquarium and also to visit the Dennis the Menace playground everyone keeps talking about. The aquarium was PACKED, but it certainly did not disappoint! The highlights for the kids were seeing the sea otters, experiencing the waves exhibit, and taking in the huge tank with all the sharks in it.
After the aquarium, we made a detour past the playground. It did not disappoint! It was also fairly crowded, but there was enough space for the kids to play on what they wanted to. There we're so many cool aspects of the playground that it was a bit overwhelming. After a bit of energy burnt out of their systems, we headed back for home, stopping past Boudin for dinner. Lyla had a Caesar salad and Hank had clam chowder - who are these kids?! They are always a surprise to me on the really normal things they won't eat and the weird, unexpected things they actually do like. It was a fun, full day, and I was glad we took the leap and ventured out. I'm looking forward to many more expeditions as Jack continues to get older and can stay awake longer!
