This year Lyla entered the "Habitat Means HOME" contest that our regional park system holds each year. This year she found out she was selected as a finalist! She was super happy and we were really impressed - the contest is open to kids up to 6th grade! She chose to draw a Great Horned Owl in an Oak Woodland habitat. At the ceremony she got to meet the Vice Mayor of Fremont, the Mayor and Vice Mayor of Newark, a representative from Senator Wieckowski's office, and a few naturalists and board members from the East Bay park system. She was super happy that part of her prize paid for her to get a stuffed Great Horned Owl at the gift shop AND that she gets to attend an ice cream social with Senator Wieckowski over the summer. Nice work Lyla!
