Hank started off this fall transitioning to being in a Preschool level class, which required Maga or Paga to take him each week and gradually work on getting out of the water more and more each week so that Hank could complete class one-on-one with an instructor by the end of the semester. Hank is not a huge fan of the water, and getting him to even stick his face in proved to be a tall order. Through lots of persistence on his instructors' parts, I'm proud to say he finally had a breakthrough around March and is now in Preschool Level 4, and is now really close to getting into real "swimming". He's been so proud of himself and his progress - we sure are proud of him too!
Lyla started off this fall transitioning to being a Beginner level class, and that meant shifting her progress back a few levels, as Beginner is much for stringent in their requirements for passing off skills than they were in the Preschool level. I think this didn't sit very well with Lyla, because she passed off a level in one class after they had "adjusted" her down to Beginner Level 3. She finally got her Breather 2 ribbon the last class of the session and will now be working on her Freestyle and Backstroke. This has been an interesting year for Lyla since her progress is coming slower as what's required of her gets much more demanding. It's been a lesson in patience and learning to enjoy swimming rather than just doing it for the stickers and ribbons. She's a persistent gal, though, and it's serving her well as she just keeps chipping away at things!
