Easter

We made the mistake of telling Lyla a little too early about the upcoming Easter holiday, and also giving her too much information, namely, the Easter Bunny.  For days after mentioning the infamous bunny, Lyla seemed afraid to go to sleep and would be really weepy around nap and bed time, which is really odd for her.  I came to find out several days later that the thought of a life-size bunny hopping around her home in the middle of the night was slightly terrifying to her.  As I thought about it, it seemed really creepy to me too.  After much assurance that the Easter Bunny was, in fact, a "good guy" that would give her lots of candy, she was fine.

As with Christmas, we spent some time teaching Lyla about the true meaning of Easter.  Lyla loved hearing another story about Jesus, and got a kick out of mastering the word "Resurrection".  If you ask Lyla her account of the story, she will tell you: "Jesus died and he went in a cave.  Then an angel came and moved the stone and Jesus came back! He was Resurrected!"  I would consider that a lesson learned well for a two year old.

Unfortunately, Dustin doesn't get Good Friday off work.  But, we did try to make the most of when he was home by having our first family movie night.  Grammy and Pa gave Lyla and Hank Target gift cards for Easter, which they cashed in for "Wreck-It Ralph".  We were pretty sure Hank was okay with that selection over a princess movie any day.  I like to try to include Lyla in some sort of holiday baked good, and Friday seemed like a good time to do that too, since I knew the rest of the weekend would be sort of crazy.  This year I tried to do birds' nests with chocolate-covered potato sticks filled with chocolate eggs.  It was dicey for awhile when it looked like the nests weren't going to come out of the muffin tins, but we tried a different technique and it was a success!

The day before Easter, we had some friends from church come over to our place so the kids could have an Easter egg hunt in our backyard.  I think they enjoyed themselves, and I definitely know they enjoyed finding out what was inside all their eggs!  The adults enjoyed hanging out and eating a great potluck dinner while the kids played.  We are really lucky that Lyla has so many little friends at church and that they all get along so well together - especially since they're all so young!

The next morning, we got up early to get ready for church.  Before we got going, Lyla went through her Easter basket, and helped Hank go through his (Don't worry, we asked her to help him!) as well. Their Easter outfits were so adorable.  Lyla said she looked like a princess, and Hank loved his so much he blew out all over his in the middle of church!  It's really hard to get Lyla AND a baby to take a good picture together, but we managed to get some cute ones.

We went over to Dustin's parents' house for an Easter dinner with some of Hank's side of the family.  It was delicious, and it was nice to just relax and visit with each other.  We got home just in time to give the kids a bath and put them in bed.  And then we realized we forgot to color Easter eggs.  So, we did it late for our family activity on Monday.  It's nice that Lyla and Hank don't care when we do stuff; they just like the excitement of a new project!

Easter weekend went by way too fast, but such is life I guess.  Here's hoping that life slows down a little for us soon!
