Back in February, Ellen's parents and sister came out to California. They stayed a few days with us, then went down to Fresno to spend a few days with Ellen's brother's family. While the family was hanging out in Fremont, we went to the park, did some shopping, took in some high school wrestling, visited with Dustin's parents, bought Lyla a LOT of toys and fun things to play with, and went to Ano Nuevo for a guided tour of the elephant seals. It was such a great visit, but way too short! We need them to come out for AT LEAST two weeks next time. :)
We've heard great things about going to see the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo state park in January and February, so Ellen booked tickets for everyone to take a tour. Once we got there, we realized it was probably a big mistake to take Lyla on a 2.5 hour guided tour covering about 3 miles of semi-strenuous terrain with no food or drink allowed on the beach. Oh, and the high-speed winds whipping around added to the difficulty factor. Amazingly, Lyla hung in there and was pretty great - one of the only kids that didn't force their families to turn back before the tour was over. It just shows what a trooper our little bug is. The elephant seals were amazing - the babies had just been born and were laying around on the beach everywhere! We couldn't believe how many seals were up close and personal for our viewing. If you live in the Northern California, you should definitely check out this tour!
We went down to Fresno on the weekend so we could all spend a little quality time all together and get in some decent family pictures. The results were pretty good!
Check out Lyla's upper body strength! She hung on this bar with her feet off the ground for a good 10 seconds or so. She was so determined to hang there - it was so cute!
We're really glad we got the chance to see Ellen's family - we are already looking forward to seeing them again in June!
