Well, last Wednesday we encountered yet another first.... first baby food experience for Lyla! Poor Lyla found herself a little, well, backed up this past week. Ellen called the pediatrician's office to find out what she should give her to alleviate some of her discomfort. The nurse recommended prune juice, so Ellen strolled Lyla over to the Fairway market to get her hands on some prune juice. Back in December we had given her juice before and all had gone well - not this time though! Lyla made a horrible face and spit out all the prune juice Ellen tried to force into her. Ellen called the pediatrician's office back and explained the dilemma, and the nurse recommended trying jarred prunes instead (there was an easy out given to apple or white grape juice instead, but the jarred prunes were supposed to work MUCH better!). Ellen took her second trip back to Fairway to get some jarred prunes (and apple juice just in case). Once back home, Ellen called her mom for some moral support and advice on how to administer the first feeding. After stripping Lyla down to just her diaper, strapping on a bib, and placing her in her Bumbo chair, mom and Lyla were ready. It didn't go too badly! After 20 minutes or so 1/4 of the jar was partially consumed (as is the case in most first feedings, more was probably ON Lyla instead of IN Lyla!). You can see from the pictures, that although skeptical at first, Lyla grew to love being fed baby food! We are now so excited for the next few weeks to fly by so that Lyla can start eating baby food every day once she hits six months!
