This Fall was chock full of soccer. This was Hank's first season playing, and it was Lyla's first time having official games. Hank played in a "Jamboree" style set-up that included practicing once a week, primarily doing drills with a little bit of scrimmaging mixed in. I really liked that his practices took place in a bounce house-style enclosure so that they didn't have balls going every which way. Coach Ricky was in charge of Hank, and he loved him. There was lots of, "Well Coach Ricky said..." around the house. Hank learned a lot of good skills, but the most important was that he won't be the only one with the ball during a game and he's going to have to work really hard to get the ball off of someone else. He had his fair share of frustration during the season, but overall it was positive for him and he progressed quite a bit.
Lyla played on a co-ed U6 team with Dustin as her coach. She was the only girl on her team, but that didn't seem to hold her back one bit. She really enjoys mixing it up with the boys, and she really liked that her friend Simon was on one of the other teams that she scrimmaged against some weeks. Her team won most, if not all, of their games this season, and Lyla found her rhythm as a natural defensive player. She progressed more towards playing some offense as the season went on as well. She is very tenacious and runs full tilt the entire game. She gives it her all, and very rarely needs to be reminded to get her head in the game. Dustin really enjoyed getting to spend all the extra time with Lyla, and he was a little sad when it ended. I, on the other hand, was a little relieved to be done with the Monday and Wednesday practices along with the Friday night games. Three days a week is a lot for the mother of a six year old (not to mention her two little brothers)!
We're going to get rested up these next few months and get prepped and ready to go when Spring soccer comes back around in March.
