5 Months

Lyla is officially five months old today! Her updated stats are as follows:

• Weight - 16 lb. 3 oz.
• Height - 26 in.
• Head Circumference - 43 cm.

These stats land her comfortably in about the 80th percentile, so still a nice perfectly proportionate little girl. :) This month was a bit of a rough one for Lyla, battling through a nasty bout of reflux. We're still dealing from day to day, but after many doctors visits, weight checks, a particularly traumatic flushing of the ears (to make sure she didn't have an ear infection), and a trip to a GI specialist, her new medicine and rice cereal added to her milk seems to be helping. The doctors assure us reflux usually peaks between 4 - 6 months of age, so hopefully she will start coming out of it soon!


On to happier notes - this month Lyla had lots of new highlights and discoveries. She LOVES her feet (and WILL suck on them if not covered with socks!). She is rolling over more (still not consistently - AGH!), and she is getting better at smiling (as seen in the pictures!). Mom and dad have each found their own special ways to make Lyla laugh. Mom tickles her belly and dad does a dance party with Lyla. Weirdly enough if mom does the dance party or dad tries to tickle her, it doesn't work. Clearly, Lyla likes having her own special things with us. :)

Lyla is making a lot of progress with tummy time. She is scooting around and can put herself into reverse fairly easily (now if only she could move forward!). We are thinking that within another month or two, this bruiser may start crawling (We know, it will probably end up taking her months and months with these kind of assumptions we make!).

Lyla has also discovered the gift of gab. She loves to babble and coo. Some mornings we hear her in her crib just talking away to herself. She makes us laugh with these silly sounds (although not so much when she starts screeching and screaming). She is starting to carry on "conversations" at times with us, taking turns talking and listening. Sometimes she stumbles across a one-syllable word that seems to fit in the conversation, like "Yeah!". We can't wait for the actual words to start coming in!

Lyla has a new toy - I know, ANOTHER one. The GI specialist wanted us to keep her upright for 20 - 30 minutes after each feeding. This proved to be a little challenging for a girl who wants to play! We ended up getting her this fancy contraption which serves to both entertain her and help her stay upright to digest all that yummy rice milk.

Aunt Shannon made this awesome sign for Lyla's room. As you can tell, Lyla loves the new decor in her room. Hopefully someday Lyla will be artsy just like her aunt. Thanks Aunt Shannon!
